Floral Halloween wreaths are perfect for embellishing doors, windows, mantle pieces, tabletops and just about anywhere you wish to bring a slice of Halloween décor.

Keen to share our knowledge of seasonal wreaths, we’ve put together an easy step-by-step guide on how to make a Halloween wreath, as well as our top tips and inspirational ideas to get the most from your chilling creations.

6 Simple Steps to Making an Easy Halloween Wreath

You will need:

Step 1: Soak Your Halloween Wreath

Using our Halloween wreath kit, fill a container or sink with fresh water. Place the OASIS® Floral Foam wreath, foam side down, into the container and leave to soak for 45 seconds. Soaking the floral foam will ensure your chosen flowers or foliage will remain fresh without causing any mess. Our comprehensive guide to floral foam covers all you need to know to make the most of using OASIS® Floral Foam for your Halloween flower wreath.

Handy Hint: To increase the life of your fresh floral Halloween wreath, mix a sachet of FloraLife® flower food in your container of water before soaking your floral foam. This will provide your chosen flowers with key nutrients, so you can enjoy your creation for longer!

Step 2: Gather Your Foliage, Flowers and Accessories

Gather together your chosen flowers and foliage and separate them into smaller sections. We recommend choosing three to four different flowers or foliage to create a multi-dimensional look.

At OASIS® Brand Home & Hobby, we love using accessories in our Halloween flower wreaths as it is an opportunity to be as creative as you want! Try selecting accessories that will add an injection of colour to your wreath.

Handy Hint: If you’re hoping to forage for your chosen foliage, there is an abundance of spectacularly coloured plants that can be found during September and October. Grasses such as Feather Grass and Sea Oats are ideal for creating colour, movement and height, while Black Mondo grass will instantly create a spookier look. If you’re looking for a pop of colour for your Halloween wreath, the fiery tones of autumnal Maple leaves are perfect for a dramatic floral arrangement.

Step 3: Create a Hanger for Your Wreath

With your chosen ribbon, cut a piece twice the length you hope to hang your floral Halloween wreath by and fold it in half. Simply loop the ribbon over the top section of the wreath and post the opposite end through to create a means by which you can hang your spooky creation.

Step 4: Add in Your Foliage

Using your OASIS® Floral Scissors, begin by snipping the ends of your foliage to the size you desire, before inserting into the outer edge, side and then base of the wreath ring. You can either integrate all your chosen foliage into a mixed array or try focussing on separate sections to allow each to stand out.

If you have opted for a smaller variety of foliage, such as grasses, create small bunches and tie together with floristry wire, leaving one end of the wire sticking out for easy insertion into the floral foam. For larger leaves, such as Maple, Birch and Poplar, snip the end in a diagonal fashion so each leaf can be inserted directly into the OASIS® Floral Foam. Otherwise, inserting a small length of floristry wire through the stem will help keep them in place.

Handy Hint: To bring a little more height to your Halloween wreath, try folding some of the larger leaves and keep in place with a small piece of floristry wire. This will help the foliage stand out and avoid a flat Halloween flower wreath arrangement.

Step 5: Add in Your Accent Flowers or Foliage

Once your foliage is in place around the OASIS® floral foam wreath, begin by placing any accent flowers or more unusual foliage you have chosen.

For bolder accent flowers such as Sunflowers, Dahlias or Hydrangeas, distribute them around your Halloween wreath.

For smaller accent flowers or foliage, create smaller clusters to avoid them being lost amongst the other foliage.

Handy Hint: Autumn is truly a time of plenty, and many gorgeous varieties of plants are ripe for the picking. There are a number of unique and unusual plants that are perfect for enhancing your Halloween wreath, such as Chinese Lanterns and ‘Black Jack’ Dahlias.

Step 6: Accessorise Your Halloween Flower Wreath

It’s time to bring an eerie charm to your floral Halloween wreath! Accessorising your wreath is the final touch and a fantastic time to really get your creative juices flowing.

Evenly interspersing your accessories around your Halloween wreath ensures each piece can be seen while creating a harmonious look.

Handy Hint: Don’t limit your accessories to those purely intended for floral arrangements. With the help of some very handy floristry wire, you can put just about anything into your floral Halloween wreath! Simply cut the desired length of wire, fold it in half and twist one end around your accessory, leaving the other end to place within your wreath.

And why not forage for your own accessories? Pinecones and acorns are popular this time of year and will bring an authentic Autumnal touch to your Halloween flower wreath.

Easy Extra Halloween Wreath Ideas

• If you’re hoping to create a Halloween wreath that you can use time and time again, swap fresh flowers and foliage for a dry or artificial variety, perfect for use with our OASIS® SEC dry floral foam. There are bountiful choices that can look just as good as the real thing and you won’t have to worry about their longevity.

• Make your Halloween wreath a real focal point by adding a larger ominous accessory to the centre of the wreath. A skull or miniature skeleton works perfectly surrounded by darker and deeper-toned plants.

• Create a spider web effect using cotton stretched over your wreath and place toy spiders amongst them.

• Using a thick black card, cut out the silhouette of a cat, spider, skull or pumpkin and place it in the centre of the wreath. Add a little tealight behind the silhouette and watch it glow

• Create terrifying eyeballs by painting ping pong balls and placing them amongst your foliage.
